Development of a test rig

for experimental evaluation of cutting quality in plasma cutting.

The thermal cutting of metallic materials by means of a plasma arc has been an established process for many years, which is used for both weld seam preparation in steel construction and for numerous applications in vehicle, container or plant construction as well. The sheet thicknesses which can be separated nearly without reworking, range from 0.5 to 160mm. The cut “made by Kjellberg Finsterwalde” is a worldwide benchmark with regard to quality and economic efficiency.

The aim of the research paper or diploma thesis is to develop a test setup with which different cutting settings are to be investigated with regard to the quality of the cutting result and the service life of the wearing parts in the plasma torch. Afterwards, the results have to be statistically evaluated and the corresponding correlations need to be derived!

Your Profile:

  • Student (m/f/x) majoring in mechanical engineering, production engineering or industrial engineering
  • Confident handling of MS Office, if necessary CAD (SolidWorks)
  • High level of initiative
  • Open-minded, result-oriented and goal-oriented working style
