TESTIMONIAL – SLV HALLE

“The ProFocus laser head achieves the balancing act between complexity, cost-effectiveness and maintaining the metallurgical properties of the component.”

  1. What challenges or opportunities did SLV GmbH face before using the ProFocus laser head in the repair of component parts?

Maintaining a balance between complexity, cost-effectiveness and metallurgical properties of the components was a major challenge. The previously used hand-held technologies, such as TIG or MSG build-up welding and manual laser welding with pulsed systems, all offer their specific advantages, but rarely did a system achieve this balancing act like the ProFocus laser head.

  1. Why did SLV decide in favour of the ProFocus laser head and the collaboration with OSCAR-PLT?

On the one hand, as a non-profit training and research organisation, SLV Halle is also committed to constantly transferring new technologies into the industrial environment and providing regional, largely medium-sized end customers with access to new technologies. On the other hand, as part of the establishment of the in-house ‘Centre for Generative Joining’, a system for precise build-up welding using a laser beam and wire was to be procured. The ProFocus stood out from the competition on a technical level. The regional proximity to OSCAR PLT and the pronounced willingness to co-operate on both sides ultimately led to the investment in this new system.

  1. How did SLV first use the ProFocus laser head and what was the experience with it so far?

The first applications were clearly in the three-dimensional production of small components as an alternative production technology to CNC turning and milling. Over the course of time, repair welding was also carried out on a wide variety of materials and coatings on new parts as part of research projects.

  1. What results did SLV achieve by using the ProFocus laser head?

For SLV Halle, the system has proven itself primarily for the regeneration and maintenance of worn components as well as surface functionalization. Pure additive applications can also be implemented for highly complex components with the ProFocus, but with significantly lower demand from industry.

Our technologies

Wire LMD

WIRE LMD (Laser Metal Deposition with wire) is the safest and cleanest laser welding technology. This method stands for precision and efficiency, especially for repair welding and 3D printing of large metal components. The advantages include low porosity, high material efficiency and safe handling.

Powder LMD

Powder LMD (Laser Metal Deposition with powder) is one of the most common additive manufacturing techniques with a wide range of applications and materials. This method offers high precision and flexibility for repair welding, laser coating and the production of new parts.

Arc welding

Arc welding is a welding process in which an electric arc between an electrode and the workpiece generates heat to melt and join metals. This method is widely used due to its versatility, efficiency and strong joints.
