Compact laser cell for metal 3D printing.
Would you like to use laser cladding without planning a custom system? The ProFocus LaserCell Compact is the turnkey metal 3D printing system for small to medium-sized components. It combines proven ProFocus technology with a compact, enclosed working environment – including work area, operation and coordinated system technology. Plug and play, ready to go.
It closes the gap between the flexible ProFocus Compact system and the large automated ProFocus WeldingCell. While ProFocus provides the technology for laser cladding, repair, coating and additive manufacturing, the ProFocus LaserCell Compact offers a turnkey laser cell for anyone who wants to get started quickly, space-efficiently and safely.
This turns an innovative technology into a practical solution for your production: for repair, coating, feasibility studies and additive manufacturing of metal components.
What you gain with the ProFocus LaserCell Compact
| • | Fast start: turnkey system instead of time-consuming in-house integration |
| • | Small footprint: compact solution for limited production space |
| • | Easy operation: intuitive access, even for new applications |
| • | Flexible use: for repair, coating and additive manufacturing |
| • | Scalable system: optionally expandable and adaptable to your requirements |
When laser cladding makes sense – but a large system is not needed
Many companies recognize the potential of laser cladding, metal 3D printing, repair and coating – but hesitate to get started. Not because the application is uninteresting, but because the path to implementation often seems too demanding: in-house system planning, coordination of individual components, laser protection, operating concept, space requirements and process reliability.
Especially for small to medium-sized components, the question often arises: Is a large automated, individual system really worthwhile? Or is there a compact laser cell that allows applications to be tested safely, components to be processed and initial processes to be implemented close to production?
Typical challenges include:
| • | getting started with laser cladding seems complex and difficult to plan |
| • | a large automated robot cell is oversized for many applications |
| • | available production space is limited |
| • | individual technology components would first have to be integrated into a usable system |
| • | feasibility studies, repairs or coatings need to be implemented quickly and close to real-world production conditions |
| • | applications need to remain cost-effective without unnecessary system complexity |
The solution: a compact laser cell that makes getting started easy
The ProFocus LaserCell Compact makes laser cladding usable wherever a large automated system is not required – but a single technology component would not be enough. It combines laser system, work area, operation and supply of wire, power and shielding gas in one compact, turnkey laser cell for small to medium-sized components.
This means you do not have to plan, coordinate and integrate individual components yourself. Instead, you receive a complete solution that enables feasibility studies, repairs, coatings and additive manufacturing to be implemented in a practical way. Getting started becomes more manageable, applications become easier to plan and operation becomes easier.
What this means for your application
| • | Less integration effort: laser system, work area, operation and media supply are coordinated with each other. |
| • | Easier start: you begin with a ready-to-use laser cell instead of individual components. |
| • | Better-planned applications: feasibility studies, repairs and coatings can be prepared and implemented in a controlled way. |
| • | Right-sized solution: ideal for small to medium-sized components where a large automated system is not necessary. |
| • | Greater cost-effectiveness: you use modern laser processing exactly where it pays off – without unnecessary system complexity. |
Typical applications: start compact, implement practically
The ProFocus LaserCell Compact is especially suitable for applications where laser cladding, metal 3D printing, repair or coating make sense – but a large automated system is not required. It is the right solution for small to medium-sized metal components, feasibility studies and production-oriented applications where space is limited.
It supports companies that want to restore high-value components, protect surfaces or evaluate new additive applications – without having to plan a large robot cell or an individually built system environment right away.
Areas of application
| • | Repair of worn or damaged components: restore high-value components in a targeted way |
| • | Coating of heavily stressed surfaces: protect components from wear and extend their service life |
| • | Additive manufacturing of small to medium-sized metal components: build up metal structures in a controlled way |
| • | Feasibility studies for new applications and materials: validate processes before planning larger investments |
| • | Process development before moving into larger production environments: test applications and evaluate them with greater confidence |
| • | Flexible processing where space is limited: use modern laser processing even where floor space is limited |
Technology explained clearly: precise material deposition with Laser-DED
The ProFocus LaserCell Compact uses Laser-DED for repair, coating and additive manufacturing. In the process, metallic filler material is introduced into a locally generated melt pool and metallurgically bonded to the component layer by layer. This makes it possible to rebuild worn areas, create functional coatings or additively manufacture new geometries.
In the ProFocus process, the filler material is fed coaxially to the processing point. The annular laser beam guidance directs the energy precisely into the process and enables controlled material deposition with comparatively low heat input into the base material. This is particularly relevant when geometry, material properties and the heat-affected zone need to be controlled precisely.
Depending on the application, additional functions can be integrated for process control – such as Height Control for regulating the working distance, temperature measurement for monitoring the thermal process condition or a Gas Control Kit for defined shielding gas supply. This turns the compact laser cell into a technically controlled process environment for reproducible processing results.
System setup: compact, complete, process-oriented
The ProFocus LaserCell Compact is designed as a turnkey laser cell with a laser-safe work area, ProFocus laser head, user interface and coordinated media supply. Laser process, wire feeding, shielding gas and system control interact within one integrated system.
This not only reduces integration effort, but also creates defined boundary conditions for Laser-DED processes. Depending on the application, build space, enclosure and functional scope can be adapted. Variants for larger working areas or mobile processing tasks are also possible.
